Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of co-op are we?

Our classes are extracurricular focusing on projects, activities, arts, engineering, science, unit studies and a lot of creativity! Our classes do not overlap with the core curriculum you’ve chosen to use at home and no homework assignments are given. Because we have such varying levels of schooling in each age group, we minimize the amount of reading and writing done during class and maximize the collaborative nature of group learning and creating together!

What are the classes?

Every parent is responsible for teaching one class per year. Every class is picked, planned and taught by a parent in the co-op. A class schedule for the upcoming semester is not available until it has been created at the end of the current semester.

How are the children organized into groups?

We group the children into "age group classes" typically within a year or two of age. The age groupings depend upon registration results so these groups vary from year to year slightly. But typically they are 4-5 year olds, 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12 and up.

Do you have a Nursery or Toddler Class?

We have a nursery classroom for children 0 - 18 months old. We have a toddler classroom for children ages 18 months - 3 years old. The toddler classroom has a schedule that includes songs, crafts, toys, games, and snack time.  We cannot accommodate babies and toddlers in the regular co-op classes.

What does a typical day look like for the lower elementary aged children?

Children are dropped off to their classroom. Every class begins with a Tinker Station class, where open-ended toys are provided and they can interact, play, socialize and create. Next, their first teacher begins their class together for about 45 minutes. Then, they'll have a story and snack. And lastly, their next teacher will begin their last class for another 45 minutes. This schedule provides a fun balance between play and learning!

What does a typical day look like for the older children?

These age groups register for classes. The day starts with a 30 minute social activity, followed by 2 1-hour class periods.
